Lodgecamp
Lodgecamp is a speculative design project intended to synthesize the interests of migrant farm workers and tourism.
Lodgecamps would be built along setback levees of the Large Owner Axis and are mixed-use buildings of housing, social and commercial space. They are sited adjacent to the new system of light ferries along the LOA.
Lodgecamps would augment the available housing options for the farm workers, whose families must live in cities far from the workplace. But Lodgecamps are a hoteling housing type accommodating constituencies whose reasons to be in the Delta are determined by season. When farmworkers don’t need to be in the Delta, Lodgecamps are occupied by tourists.
Materially, the Lodgecamp reflects its rotating constituencies. Social spaces change program night to day and season to season. Many of the Lodgecamps are in remote locations, and are therefore self-sufficient, using passive ventilation, water harvesting, and photovoltaic collection and wind generation systems.
